I’ve seen some really good flicks lately including Crash, Star Wars Episode III and Dark September Rain. I got an email from Geoffrey Breedon about his film Dark September Rain and he asked if I would like a copy of the DVD. I said sure and gave him my address then I got it in the mail on Friday. After seeing the movie I realized that he also runs the Chrysalis Age website that I used to frequent. I don’t want to say too much about the film now so check it out for yourself at http://www.darkseptemberrain.com/
I liked Crash as well, mainly because it shows the complexity of us human beings and how stereotypes and labels of others are at many times completely off base. It also shows how people’s level of development and behavior can truly be all over the place given different contexts and situations. I’ve always enjoyed movies that show the connectedness of different people and their lives. The ending reminded me of Magnolia in a way – except instead of it raining frogs it was snow in Los Angeles.
It got me thinking about Pulp Fiction for some reason as well and how I was freakin blown away by that movie when I left the theater. I’m not sure what it was about that movie but the total experience of it rocked something in me. Tarrantino’s Jackie Brown was awesome too – I really like how he showed the same event happening from the perspective of different characters. That technique was also used in the TV show Boomtown where each episode followed the same overall event and storyline but from the perspectives of the various characters of the show.
Star Wars was basically what I expected and enjoyable. I still rank The Empire Strikes Back as my fav overall though. Just in time for the movie, I recently saw a new book called The Dharma of Star Wars that looks interesting.
